A relational database is the cornerstone of modern data management. It has been around for decades, and has been labeled as "outdated" many times when newer technologies came around. Yet, the data world inevitably circles back to the power of relational databases. While most analysts can write SQL statements to run on these databases, many have not embraced best practices to keep things modular, testable and documented. We will demonstrate how DBT, an open-source tool to build SQL transformations, can reduce the pains of unclear analytical queries. After taking this course, you will be able to * reduce the code base of SQL-based ETL pipelines, and thus reduce the chance of mistakes * bring DBT workflows in modern automated orchestration frameworks * iterate faster during development of reporting and other analytics workloads. You'll also get some experience with Snowflake, to boot! What should you know beforehand? You should be comfortable writing analytical queries in SQL.
